[ Neat, concise, practical penmanship. Erwin does quite a lot of writing. ]
I would like to extend my thanks to those so quick to help newcomers. It is very much appreciated. Though I believe I am fairly well informed at this point, I have a few more specific questions:
Lastly: I ask that Jean Kirstein and Marco Bott contact me as soon as possible.
[ action ]
[ Erwin's been in Luceti only a few days, but he'd memorized the layout of the village on the first. Food, clothing, weapons--he knows where to find these things, and he's been noting all of the smaller shops besides. He's far from content, but he is adapting, though still on high alert. He is well aware already that there is little he will be able to do immediately. But he can prepare to do more, and that is precisely what he is planning on.
He can be found at the smithy looking at weapons, at the grocery store (Levi wants non-perishables, wants to stock up), sitting outside looking through his journal--green cape around his shoulders, hiding his wings with more wings--or just about anywhere else by appointment. ]
[ warning: there will likely be spoilers for recent attack on titan manga chapters in castmembers' threads. while we won't drop spoilers on someone unrelated, if you're reading along, beware! ]

I would like to extend my thanks to those so quick to help newcomers. It is very much appreciated. Though I believe I am fairly well informed at this point, I have a few more specific questions:
- Have you ever been drafted for service in the war? Volunteered for it? If so, what was asked of you?
- How frequently are you and/or those you know taken in for experimentation? If you have first-hand experience with this, do you recall what happened?
- Based on your experiences in Luceti, what is your personal opinion of the Malnosso?
Lastly: I ask that Jean Kirstein and Marco Bott contact me as soon as possible.

It's a risk, certainly. But if not any of this, what do you intend to eat, Levi?
[ Anything and everything here has the potential to be tainted. The food is only one of many prospective dangers. They've been forced into a situation where they have little other choice but to accept the Malnosso's 'generosity.' ]
no subject
Things that at least look like they're edible.
[which is why he's wandering over to what looks like actual fresh produce - things that likely came out of the ground. Even if some of them look strange (seriously, what the fuck is this), they appear to be less suspicious.]
Besides, there might be something in the forest we can hunt as well.
no subject
None of these things will keep for very long--even things we hunt.
[ What happened to building up food stores, Levi? ]
Unless we jar or salt them ourselves.
no subject
We'll do what we have to.
[oh, they're still going to build up stores, even if it takes longer. But they can still look around and see if dried meats and fruits are already available. He intends to be incredibly thorough in his investigation of this food facility.]
no subject
Of course. Let's see if we can find anything more suitable.
[ Erwin is in agreement. He'll gladly comb the whole store if it means finding something like what they eat at home. Something he's familiar with. But where to begin? ]
We should separate to cover more ground.
[ First Expedition beyond the entrance of Luceti Grocery Store, commence! ]

[which, by his standards, is probably about 90% of what's in there. Possibly 95%. Gonna have to learn to expand your horizons, Levi.
He starts off at a brisk pace, first to make a survey of the available options. Past the produce, meat, bread. Anything he couldn't immediately identify was passed over, anything that came in a box where he couldn't see the item itself wasn't even considered. Thankfully, though, there seems to be some selection of things he was hoping to find. What does pass inspection he grabs what some people might consider to be ridiculous amounts (of things that will keep), but for Levi, this is about survival.
He surveys the bags upon bags of things he's collected. Damn. Should have made the cadets come along to carry things.]

He finds Levi first, burdened with much more food than he'd expected. How is he carrying all of that? Being prepared is good, but they don't need to take all of it at once. ]
Levi, that's--
[ what to say in order not to offend him ]
--quite a lot for one trip.
[ Good. Not undermining his choices; merely implying that they should return for some of it later. ]
no subject
He crosses his arms, eyes narrowing as Erwin considers his words.]
...then obviously we'll come back for what we can't carry this time.
[Did you really think he was going to attempt to bring it all back with them at once?]
no subject
Good.
[ He'll relieve you of some of that, then, Levi--as much as he can carry in one arm, as the other is already full. That should make the burden more manageable, at least. ]
We can return as many times as we need to.
[ This is Erwin genuinely agreeing. Conserving food is important, and Levi's zealousness is honestly appreciated. ]

[Levi picks up about five of the bags, draping two over his shoulders and easily grabbing up the others. There's still about six more remaining that they can't carry between the two of them.]
I'm not leaving anything that I've taken the time to collect. Let's go.
no subject
All right.
[ They'll return for those as soon as they can, then. But for now, Erwin leads the way out--they really don't have to pay for any of it, do they, no one is stopping them--and toward the path that will lead them back to their building. ]
I suppose we'll find out soon enough if there are any harmful effects from eating what they provide us.
[ They've been here for a few days already, and they've been eating, and nothing notable has happened yet. ]
Will you care for me if I take ill, Levi?
[ Erwin, striving to remain constantly serious and pragmatic for his troops, doesn't joke with many people; only those he knows well. Levi is one of them, though he tends not to appreciate Erwin's strained attempts at humor. ]
no subject
[Erwin jokes sometimes, and Levi usually scowls at him because they're usually terrible jokes. This time though, he can't really find it funny, just...ironic. Who will care for him if he falls ill? If only he'd just become ill and not actually lost his right arm. He's damn lucky to be alive still, but his partially incapacitated state makes Levi quietly anxious.]
[He doesn't respond, staring steadfastly at the path ahead of them.]

But sometimes Levi simply doesn't want to be bothered. Perhaps there's a lot on his mind. Erwin can relate to that. He remains silent for the remainder of the walk back to their building, allowing himself to be consumed by his own thoughts. He thinks on the information he's acquired, the people he's met, and the nature of Luceti itself. The peaceful village he's familiarized himself with is only one piece of the puzzle. There are other so-called 'enclosures' like this, meaning that there is far more to be seen beyond Luceti's barriers. The Malnosso seem like so powerful an obstacle as to be nearly impossible to overcome. Luckily, Erwin is used to facing bad odds. He isn't discouraged.
When they reach Flame Building, he takes the initiative to open the door first, holding it for Levi after him. ]
no subject
The silence had stretched too long when he finally realized he hadn't answered. They've reached the building, and he follows after Erwin dutifully. Up in the apartment they've claimed, he puts down the bags, rolling his shoulders stiffly.]
You know I'll do whatever you need me to do. Whether it's killing titans or pouring tea down your throat.
