001 [ written / action ]

[ written ]

[ Neat, concise, practical penmanship. Erwin does quite a lot of writing. ]

I would like to extend my thanks to those so quick to help newcomers. It is very much appreciated. Though I believe I am fairly well informed at this point, I have a few more specific questions:
  • Have you ever been drafted for service in the war? Volunteered for it? If so, what was asked of you?
  • How frequently are you and/or those you know taken in for experimentation? If you have first-hand experience with this, do you recall what happened?
  • Based on your experiences in Luceti, what is your personal opinion of the Malnosso?
If you would like to speak further, or more privately, this is Commander Erwin Smith. I am willing to meet with you in person if you are wary of speaking freely this way.

Lastly: I ask that Jean Kirstein and Marco Bott contact me as soon as possible.

[ action ]

[ Erwin's been in Luceti only a few days, but he'd memorized the layout of the village on the first. Food, clothing, weapons--he knows where to find these things, and he's been noting all of the smaller shops besides. He's far from content, but he is adapting, though still on high alert. He is well aware already that there is little he will be able to do immediately. But he can prepare to do more, and that is precisely what he is planning on.

He can be found at the smithy looking at weapons, at the grocery store (Levi wants non-perishables, wants to stock up), sitting outside looking through his journal--green cape around his shoulders, hiding his wings with more wings--or just about anywhere else by appointment. ]

[ warning: there will likely be spoilers for recent attack on titan manga chapters in castmembers' threads. while we won't drop spoilers on someone unrelated, if you're reading along, beware! ]

[Oh baby, she will flirt and tease for as long as you want to go.]

/I would be willing to train you and your comrades in how to use the Battle Dome--/ [God knows she's trained enough people all out of pure kindness anyway.] /--and how to use the weaponry present here. Ammo is short in the village, but seems to be plentiful on missions. I would also presume drafts would be generous. Thankfully, all weapons and ammo can be replicated in here./

[She'll take his debt too. Favors are always good to have.]

/Though I have a question for you that may possibly tie into our arrangement. It involves a young man name Jean./

[Just the two then. She can accept training the two and leaving the superiors to train the subordinates. Ginia nods in acceptance.]

/Assuming we're talking about the same person, he mentioned a combat device called the 3D Maneuver Gear./ [As well as titans, titans and the wall and the last bastion of humanity may have also come up in that conversation. But history lessons can come at another time.] /I'd be interested in learning more about the device./

[Ginia shakes her head.]

/He explained it as a system of compressed gas and grappling hooks to propel and pull a person through the air. While grappling hooks exist, they aren't normally used in an offensive manner. I admit the uniqueness of the system is what's caught my attention./

[From the drawing, Jean's explanation, and seeing him wear it, Ginia has a faint idea of how it would work. And though the technology would be dated in a sense, she could also see use for it in the real world. It'd certainly make scaling buildings much easier. Though a modern equivalent would probably use rocket power for more force and speed. Hmm.]

/It's possible your gear will arrive in time; I saw Jean wearing a set and it seems personal belongings arrive in time. Though it may be possible recreating a set in the Battle Dome./

[Ginia waves lightly at the weapons on the wall. All of them were recreations from the settings in the Battle Dome system. Was it possible the Battle Dome drew information from the population, choosing locations, enemies, and weapons that would be familiar to the users? It would be a smart system and if that were the case, recreating a 3DMG wouldn't be difficult.]

/But I'm in no rush. I would prefer seeing the real thing anyway. I'll be gentle, of course./

/If you have time I could give you a rundown of the Battle Dome controls and see if we can replicate one./

[She glances at a clock placed above the door.]

/This scenario is going to end soon anyway. Each one only lasts for an hour before it ends, though you can easily reactivate it outside./

[Ginia nods. She also knows how strange it is to have time. The amount of free time she has is almost disconcerting. There are little things here and there to fill up her time, but it's not like the schedule she used to have. Surveillance all day, plans, carrying out a mission, it's not the same anymore.

She miss it in a way. Being at the top of her game, feeling alive.

Ginia removes the rings and clips them back into the bracelet. The moment the scenario ends they would disappear off her fingers and it's a disconcerting feeling. A reminder that the most realistic bit of fiction is still fake and it's dangerous getting caught up in memories and fake realities.

It's why she also leaves the room before the scenario ends. Better to leave and keep the image fresh in her mind than watch it fade back into an empty steel room. Erwin is free to stay, watch everything fade away to nothing, or follow after her and meet her at the console.]

[Ginia clears out the information for the room and brings the console back to the main menu, standing to the side so Erwin can see. The main menu is pretty self-explanatory. There's a help button in the upper right that will give a friendly audio or text tutorial. Additional buttons indicate "premade environments", "previous settings", and "random" settings.

Ginia pauses to write out a message on a small notepad, her writing fast and tidy as always.]

I find the easiest way to create a place is to start with a premade environment and then begin adding things in.

[Ginia gives Erwin time to read the message before she presses the menu for premade environment. The menu opens up a list of environments already made, an image of the setting appearing on the left.]

Why don't you pick a setting that works? From where I'll show you had to add things in.

((ooc: All of this is my personal headcanon there isn't a standard description of what the Battle Dome console looks like. As far as I know.))

[With the picture of the forest on one side, a few more options pop up on the side; buttons for "enemies," "weapons," "items," "advanced settings," and "custom."]

Pressing any of the buttons will pull up a list of things already in the system. I'm inclined to believe the lists include things that are common in worlds represented by the present population. You can also create your own items, enemies, weapons, and environments under custom settings, though that takes a bit more work and trial and error.

[It's not a difficult system overall. Maybe one that requires a bit of exploration especially for people not used to technology, and fully custom environments and settings require more work, but it's fairly straight forward.]

Looks good. Once you press enter and accept the settings for the room, you get an hour. After that, the program automatically ends itself, though it'll allow you to restart it from the console.

Also there are settings in place to prevent serious injury and/or death. It's possible to make adjustments to change the safety features, but not to the point where a simulation could kill you.
